Early reasoning would have been considered heresy, the land bridge theory was first proposed by José de Acosta, S.J. in 1590 in Historia Natural y Moral de las Indias,... there needed to be a connection from the old world to the new world to justify people of the new world were descendants of Adam and Eve, otherwise the Bible would need to be re-written....
